Biography
Rick has dedicated 38 years to honing his craft. He is an acclaimed speaker and judge at regional, national, and international levels, including engagements in Mexico and Spain. His exceptional work has earned numerous Kodak “Gallery Awards” and Fuji “Masterpiece Awards.” Rick’s photographs have been showcased at prestigious venues such as Disneyworld’s EPCOT Center, Photokina in Cologne, Germany, and Imaging Asia 2005 in Korea.
In 1986, Rick achieved certification from the Professional Photographers of America (PPA), followed by his Master of Photography degree in 1992, and the Photographic Craftsman degree in 1994. He is also a recipient of the Photographic, Educational, and Service Fellowship degrees from the Professional Photographers of Colorado. His dedication to the photographic industry has been recognized with the National Award from the Professional Photographers of Colorado and the Duncan MacNab Service Award from the Rocky Mountain Professional Photographers Association. In 2012, Rick’s contributions were further celebrated with a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Professional Photographers of Colorado.
Rick’s educational programs are highly regarded for their ability to enhance both the technical skills and professionalism of photographers. He presents his content in a clear and relaxed setting, creating an optimal learning environment.

A Legacy of Excellence
Avalos Fine Portraiture was established in 1947 after Jack Avalos returned home from military service in Europe. Prior to his discharge Mr. Avalos apprenticed for a gentleman who was both an oil painter and photographer. It was there that Mr. Avalos absorbed the fundamentals of creating fine portraits. His mastery of lighting, composition, and posing served him well when he opened his first photography studio.
The commitment to quality photography, superior customer service, and impeccable business practices is what keeps Avalos Fine Portraiture in the forefront of portrait photography services in Southern Colorado.
In 1974 Mr. Avalos’ son Rick joined the business and for 45 years has carried on the tradition and values passed on by his father while ushering Avalos Fine Portraiture well into it’s 7th decade of service to southern Colorado.
